Mater Dei School Welcomes Dr. Kenneth Miller as Executive Director of Athletics
On July 17, 2025, Mater Dei School made a significant announcement regarding its athletics program by appointing Dr. Kenneth Miller as the new executive director of athletics. This role, which was created a few years ago with the hiring of Joel Hartmann, is crucial for overseeing the school’s athletic programs and enhancing the overall student-athlete experience. Dr. Miller brings a wealth of experience to this position, having served as the Administrative Director of Educational Services and District Athletic Director at the Orange Unified School District, along with being the principal at Villa Park High School.
The strategic hiring of Dr. Miller comes at a pivotal time for Mater Dei as the school aims to further its commitment to excellence in athletics. Following Hartmann’s departure, Kevin Kiernan briefly took on the role of executive director while also being recognized as a successful girls basketball coach. Kiernan has since returned to Troy High School to resume coaching, emphasizing the dynamic changes in leadership within the Mater Dei athletics department.
In addition to Miller’s appointment, Mater Dei has announced the promotion of Kelly Dullard and Jessica Perry as co-athletic directors. Both Dullard and Perry have previously served as associate athletic directors, demonstrating their dedication and understanding of the school’s athletic philosophy and mission. Their leadership, alongside Miller’s, aims to create an innovative environment conducive to the development of student-athletes.
Dr. Miller is set to officially start his role on August 1, and his statement reflects his enthusiasm for joining the Mater Dei community. He expressed honor in being part of a “remarkable tradition of excellence,” focusing on faith, character, and achievement. His commitment to supporting student-athletes and coaches signifies a promising future for the athletics program at Mater Dei.
The appointment of Dr. Miller and the establishment of the co-athletic director roles come at a time when many schools are re-evaluating their athletics programs to better cater to the needs of their students. Mater Dei’s proactive approach in refreshing its leadership underscores its dedication to providing a comprehensive and rewarding athletic experience for its students.
With Dr. Miller at the helm, Mater Dei is poised for growth and innovation in its athletic programs. The school’s focus on character building, competitive excellence, and community engagement will undoubtedly continue to flourish under this new leadership. As the school year approaches, both staff and students look forward to the upcoming changes and the positive impact of Miller’s guidance on Mater Dei’s athletic legacy.
