Families Together of Orange County: A Community Health Oasis
Families Together of Orange County (FTOC) stands as a beacon of hope in the healthcare landscape, devoted to making healthcare accessible to everyone in the community. Established in 2003 by CEO Alexander Rossel, the organization focuses on a community-oriented approach to healthcare. With headquarters located at 661 West 1st Street in Tustin, California, FTOC has continuously worked to overcome barriers that hinder access to vital medical services, including language barriers, transportation issues, and a lack of knowledge about the healthcare system.
In its early days, FTOC began as a small private medical and dental clinic. Separate from its private practice, the resource center located on Lyon Street in Santa Ana addressed vital community needs by providing after-school tutoring, food pantry access, and various other support services for families. This initial vision paved the way for significant partnerships between the clinic and the nonprofit resource center, maximizing the benefits offered to the community. Over the years, these collaborations strengthened to connect families in need with essential medical care and resources.
By 2014, the resource center faced financial struggles, leading its founder to transfer leadership to Alexander Rossel. This pivotal moment marked the birth of the Families Together of Orange County we recognize today. Rossel’s leadership transformed the private practice into a community clinic, a vital shift that expanded its capabilities and services. The focus on community growth and support became paramount, and in 2015, FTOC transitioned to a community clinic, culminating in its designation as a Federally Qualified Health Center Look-Alike (FQHC) in December 2016. This rigorous process demanded passing federal inspections with flying colors—FTOC achieved a remarkable 100% score on all evaluations on its first attempt.
Achieving FQHC Look-Alike status not only acknowledged FTOC’s quality of care but also enabled the organization to reinvest in the community and diversify its services. Just a few years after this transformative change, FTOC became one of the fastest-growing healthcare centers in Orange County, conducting over 10,000 patient visits each month. With facilities in Garden Grove and Fountain Valley, the organization has extended its reach significantly, ensuring healthcare is more accessible to various populations across Orange County.
Additionally, FTOC goes beyond traditional healthcare offerings with the establishment of a dedicated Wellness Center. Located in Tustin, this center provides various mental health services and specialty programs like physical therapy and weight resistance training. Four mobile units further allow FTOC to deliver medical, dental, behavioral health, and vision services directly to some of the most vulnerable populations throughout Orange County, including homeless shelters, schools, and community parks.
As Families Together of Orange County continues to evolve, CEO Alexander Rossel’s commitment to creating a vibrant, community-driven healthcare environment remains unwavering. With each passing day, the organization reaffirms its mission to build a healthier community, serving as a model of how dedicated leadership and community collaboration can transform the healthcare experience for everyone involved.
