Amy Poehler’s Hilarious Airplane Encounter: A Tribute to Boston Roots
In a recent episode of her podcast, "Good Hang," Amy Poehler shared a humorous memory that reflects her Boston background and her comedic bond with co-star Ana Gasteyer. The story unfolded during a flight where Poehler found herself in a clash with a fellow passenger. Gasteyer reminisced about the incident, humorously pointing out that Poehler’s late-night tirade happened even with her infant daughter, Frances, aboard the plane. This amusing anecdote rekindles memories of their time on "Saturday Night Live” and showcases the duo’s undeniable chemistry.
The Airborne Argument: A Comedic Collision
Poehler’s account of the airplane argument highlighted the tense yet comical situation that transpired when a man confronted her about her perceived loudness and choice of language. He expressed his discontent about Poehler swearing in front of Gasteyer’s baby. Poehler, defiantly recalling the confrontation, explained, “My Boston came out, let’s just say that.” This revelation of her roots captivated Gasteyer, who called witnessing the incident “the best thing I’ve ever seen.”
Family Ties: Balancing Work and Parenting
While the comedic duo is known for their on-screen antics, they both lead fulfilling family lives off-screen. Poehler was previously married to actor Will Arnett from 2003 until 2016, sharing two sons, Archie and Abel. Gasteyer, who tied the knot with Charlie McKittrick in 1996, has a daughter, Frances, and a son, Ulysses. Their experiences as mothers often influence their comedic perspectives, as seen in their playful storytelling and banter.
From "SNL" to "Mean Girls": A Comedic Legacy
Gasteyer and Poehler rose to fame as cast members on "Saturday Night Live" from 2001 to 2002, where they honed their comedic talent. Their ability to seamlessly blend humor with relatable scenarios has made them iconic. The duo’s collaboration extended to the beloved film “Mean Girls,” where they showcased their comedic prowess further. Poehler’s role as the “cool mom” to Regina George, played by Rachel McAdams, remains a memorable highlight in her filmography, while Gasteyer brought laughter to the screen in her role as Lindsay Lohan’s character’s mother.
The ‘Wine Country’ Reunion: Comedic Collaborations
In 2019, Poehler and Gasteyer rejoined forces in the film “Wine Country,” alongside fellow comedic talent like Tina Fey and Maya Rudolph. This project exemplified their enduring friendship and ability to create laughter together. The film captured the joys, challenges, and hilarities of friendship, echoing the rich comedic lineage both women share from their early days on "SNL” to contemporary projects.
The Martha Stewart Connection: Comedic Inspirations
While reminiscing about their comedic journeys, Poehler and Gasteyer expressed their admiration for lifestyle icon Martha Stewart. Gasteyer famously mimicked Stewart, demonstrating a perfect blend of humor and respect. Poehler playfully quipped about her reluctance to invite Stewart onto their podcast, highlighting the admiration both have for the culinary mogul. This playful exchange solidified their bond over inspirations that shaped their comedic personas.
