Honoring Excellence: The 2025 Women of the Waterfront Award by CYBA

The California Yacht Brokers Association (CYBA) has announced the culmination of its nomination process for the prestigious 2025 Women of the Waterfront Award. This annual accolade recognizes exceptional women whose leadership and contributions significantly impact the yachting industry in California. The award, which is overseen by the Growth, Expansion, and Outreach Committee, celebrates a CYBA member exemplifying ethical business practices, industry advocacy, and service in the boating community. This initiative sheds light on the often-overlooked contributions of female professionals, including brokers, managers, and financiers, in shaping the yachting sphere.

The Women of the Waterfront Award was established to bring attention to the profound influence women have in the yachting industry. Nominees must be trusted members of CYBA, exemplifying active engagement in boating—for instance, mentorship and promoting professionalism. Candidates are evaluated based on their commitment to advancing CYBA’s mission, alongside their meaningful contributions to the recreational boating profession at various levels. This initiative not only aims to recognize individual excellence but also seeks to inspire and elevate the standards within the yachting landscape.

Voting for the award concluded on January 16, 2026, following a thorough nomination process that involved all CYBA members. The winner was announced at the 2026 CYBA Annual Dinner and Awards Presentation, held at the Silver Gate Yacht Club in San Diego on January 17, 2026. CYBA Executive Director Mark White expressed excitement about the nominees, stating that they reflected the wealth of experience and leadership present within the Southern California yachting community.

Among this year’s nominees was Amanda Larson, a notable CEO recognized for her impactful leadership in a historically male-dominated field. Her candidacy emphasized her integrity, transparency, and commitment to elevated service standards. Larson is celebrated for her engagement within the boating community, her collaborative spirit, and her mentorship efforts that encourage women to pursue careers in marine industries. Her ethical decision-making and business growth are seen as standards to aspire to within the profession.

Another significant nominee, Joni Geis from Sterling Associates, has made notable contributions over her more than 25-year tenure in the Southern California waterfront. While she is well-known for her expertise in marine finance, her broader impact on fostering integrity and vision within the boating sector is commendable. Geis has played a pivotal role in community events, such as the San Diego Parade of Lights, and has actively helped establish women-focused professional networks like the San Diego Yachting Professionals.

The award’s recipient, Kim Dumas, was celebrated for a 25-year career marked by ethical practices and advocacy. Described as both a leading broker and a trusted advisor, Dumas is recognized for her detail-oriented and client-first approach. Her commitment to mentoring newer brokers and bolstering professional relationships within CYBA illustrates her dedication to advancing the participation of women in yachting. Her collaborative spirit and passion for empowering others embody the values celebrated by the Women of the Waterfront Award.

Leanne McNally, another nominee, has served the Southern California boating community for over two decades, gaining recognition in yacht sales, education, and maintenance. Starting her career with Harbor Sailboats and progressing through various brokerage roles, McNally is noted for her ethical approach and consumer advocacy. Her involvement with San Diego Yachting Professionals and hands-on experience reflect her commitment to education, professionalism, and inclusivity, ensuring that all levels of the industry benefit from her expertise.

Additionally, Leilani Wales was acknowledged for her extensive volunteer leadership within CYBA. As chairwoman of the Growth, Expansion, and Outreach Committee, Wales has dedicated considerable time to support women in yachting, expand membership engagement, and serve as a professional role model. Her pivotal role underscores the continuing efforts of CYBA to enhance diversity and representation within the industry.

Finally, Shaun McMahon rounded out the talented cohort of nominees, recognized for her diverse career spanning marina management, brokerage, and vessel operations. Her meticulous professionalism and community advocacy—demonstrated through her role in promoting CYBA membership at events—exemplify her contributions to the yachting sector.

Past recipients of the Women of the Waterfront Award include Kathi Krencik Ford and Bernadine Trusso, each recognized for their significant impact on the yachting profession and CYBA’s mission. The 2025 nomination cycle confirmed the breadth of leadership within CYBA and illuminated the myriad ways women continue to influence the boating industry. With the reveal of this year’s award winner, the Women of the Waterfront Award remains a crucial platform for highlighting professionals committed to excellence, integrity, and leadership across California’s yachting community.
